La Reggia is a 1,200 room royal palace that was built by king Charles of Bourbon in 1752. It was completed in 1847 and is home to some of the most exquisite paintings and sculptures of that time period. Nestled in downtown Caserta it is easy to find and has lots of parking.
Visit an antique winery dating back to 1790. View both the current winery and the tools of the trade in the "Antica Cantina". Step inside a vast ceramic-lined wine vat. This winery won a bronze medal in international wine competition in 2003 for their Montepulciano D'Abruzzo wine. wineries dating back to the 1300s. The word Palmenti means an in-ground or below ground mill which
could refer to rice, wheat or wine production. I was told that some of these were still in use ... but I doubt it. This is definitely off the usual tourist route.
Louis' Lunch has been in business since 1895 and is home to America's first hamburg sandwich. They grind their meat fresh daily and use old fashioned vertical gas broilers to cook their hamburgers. Their bread toaster is from the 1920's. Their hamburgers are so tasty that they only allow cheese, onions and tomatoes on the hamburger sandwich. Don't ask for ketchup!

We don't need to say much about Sorrento ... it was a great place and we visited it in the Spring one year and the Summer another year. Gaeta is a medieval coastal town between Naples and Anzio Italy. There are some nice restaurants around the central park where we stopped and had lunch.
Florence, like most major cities, abound with street performers. In the Piazza Signoria the mimes raise their art form to a high level. While attending two weeks of Italian language school (La Scuola Tuscana) I would sit in the Piazza and do my homework. I became friends with Luigi Benassai, the mime you will see. Travel with us in a ski gondola and "jeep" as we ascend Mount Etna in Sicily. Who would have thought there would have been this much snow in March. We could only make it to just below the summit to view the huge caldera. At a lower elevation we hiked down into an extinct caldera.

Perched high on hill on the Island of Capri, this once home, now a museum, dedicated to the Swedish Doctor, Axel Munthe commands a fantastic view of the bays and mountains. Axel Munthe settled in Capri in 1887. The house is completely furnished and the gardens are a pleasure to walk through.
This Archaeological Park contains a Roman mphitheater and Sicily's largest Greek theater. Also within the park is The Ear of Dionysius (cave) and the Altar of Hieron II. It is a wonderfully laid out park and one
should allow a few hours to wander through it. It is a treasure trove of of Roman and Greek structures
spanning ten centuries.
